The Canon BG-E14 battery grip is the official Canon battery-grip for the Canon EOS 70D digital SLR and offers the user multiple power options plus vertical control. The BG-E14 will hold up to 2 Canon LP-E6 batteries to offer a greater shooting duration. As an alternative the BG-E14 grip can be used with 6 AA batteries. This not only increases shooting times but also means that the universally available AA batteries can be used in the event that your lithium ion batteries fail. The Canon BG-E14 grip also makes holding your 70D in the vertical or portrait position more comfortable. Shutter release, main dial, AF Point Selection, AF/FE Lock, Index, Aperture, Exposure Compensation Button and Reduce Button functions are all replicated on the grip, making operation of the camera more convenient when shooting in the portrait format.

Great Grip First and foremost, this is a Canon brand grip. It is much more durable than other off-market brand grips. This type of grip comes at a bigger cost though. I’ve used a photive BG-E8 grip for my T4i until it stopped working. The build quality and feel of this grip compliments the design of the 70D and fits perfectly. For users with big hands, this is a necessity. The buttons work as advertised and I am able to shoot portrait style shots comfortably. The 1/4″ thread on the bottom works perfectly…

Fantastic Unit This battery grip from Canon for the new 70D camera is magnificent. It fits seamlessly onto the camera and the two pieces look like one unit. The camera controls built into the grip are placed very similar to where the controls on the camera are located and using them does not take a lot of getting used to. Pricey, but worth it for me. I’ve been using this grip for about a month and have taken it in the field. It works flawlessly and is a perfect cosmetic match for my Canon EOS 70D.The battery door on the camera removes and stores on the grip body very securely. I have seen reviews of less expensive third party grips where the camera’s battery door fits loosely when storing and in some cases people have experienced shorts in the battery current on the cheaper alternatives.
